Mahsus Display

In-house display serif

Mahsus Display is the studio's display serif — a fork of Newsreader by Production Type, recut and re-spaced for hospitality register. It is the typeface the wordmark is baked from, the typeface every page H1 is set in, and the only typeface the studio will ever name in public.

Forking an existing open-source serif rather than commissioning new metal is the studio position: do the deliberate work where it matters, attribute upstream where it doesn't. Newsreader is the work of a great house. Mahsus Display is what the studio added to it for its own use.

What a study is.

Architects keep studies. Type designers keep studies. Photographers keep studies. They are the finished pieces of craft that aren't client deliverables — exploratory, deliberate, held to the same standard. Mahsus keeps studies for the same reason: the work the studio does on itself is held to the same line the work for any property is held to.

    The wordmark

Bespoke SVG, baked from Mahsus Display.

Most studios use their wordmark as live text. Mahsus's wordmark is a single bespoke SVG path — six glyphs flattened from Mahsus Display, then hand-tuned for the optical sizes the studio actually uses. Live text drifts across operating systems. A vector wordmark holds the line on every device, in every browser, at every scale.

    Mahsus.com

When the studio is both client and studio.

Every other case study on this site is for a property. This one is for the studio. The site you are reading is the only working case where Mahsus briefed itself, scored itself, wrote itself, and built itself — to the same standard the studio holds for any commission. It is the longest-running study on the page.

    Procurement-grade paperwork

Sample SoW, treatment, and invoice schedule.

Most studios send paperwork as an afterthought. Mahsus's sample Statement of Work, one-page treatment, and invoice schedule are themselves a study — in what procurement-ready paperwork looks like when the studio writes its own. Published openly so a property can see the shape of the engagement before any brief leaves their desk.

    Privacy as transparency

An audit-grade notice, written like an editorial document.

The privacy notice at /privacy is a study in what transparency looks like when a hospitality studio writes one for itself. NDA-aware, breach-notification clauses named, photographer-credit policy held in the same document as the data-retention schedule. The notice answers the procurement questions before a brief is sent.
